Fortunately you haven't missed much. Max was sick all weekend.
I worked all day and yet still somehow managed to make him a delicious soup.
I call it "Empty the crisper drawer soup":
1 large leek slice thin
2 cloves garlic
couple tablespoons of white cooking wine
olive oil
2 carrots
2 parsnips
a couple of red bliss potatoes
a couple of sweet jewel fingerling potatoes
a few sprigs of fresh thyme
2-4 leaves of fresh sage
1 bay leaf
water/vegetable broth (duh)
kosher salt and pepper to taste
Sautee the leek and garlic in oil for 2-5 minutes until it is bright green and soft (or until you are done chopping the other vegetables. Add wine and cook for a minute or two at high heat then turn it back down to mediumish. Add the other vegetables and cook for another 3-5 minutes. Throw in everything else, cover and cook until everything is cooked. Season with salt and pepper. Who needs precise measurements? Not me. Just go by taste. It doesn't sound like anything special but it was delicious. I promise. Here's no picture because I am lazy:
I left most of the soup for Max and I got dinner at Pepper Pot in Roxbury. Gardner got the Channa dinner comprised of the same rice and peas and vegetables but instead of tofu he got oily but otherwise well seasoned chickpeas in sauce. I was so excited to eat some fried plantain but I forgot to order them! Dumb. I guess I will have to go back. I did two other dumb things that very same night! 1. I left my bicycle helmet somewhere (this is the second one I have lost in three months) I thought I had locked it to my bike. I guess not. Dumber than that, I left this delicious platter of food (half eaten) at Juniper Manor. I hope someone enjoyed it.
